when you turn up late to a lecture at university and think that everyone is watching and judging you as you walk. Spilling ketchup on your white t-shirt and thinking everyone then thinks you are a muppet for doing it.

The spotlight effect is the natural tendency for people to think that people pay attention to them when they in fact don’t.
